NIGERIA : THREE DEATH IN SUICIDE BOMBING IN IDP CAMP
Three people were killed in a suicide bombing at a displaced people’s camp near Maiduguri, the capital of northeastern Nigeria, security officials said on Monday.
The attack took place on Sunday evening at 23:20 (2220 GMT) in the Dalori displaced persons camp 1, said Abdulkadir Ibrahim, of the National Emergency Management Agency (Nema).
He said in a statement, « two suicide bombers, one man and one woman, were detonated in Dalori camp 1, killing 3 people and wounding 17. Another incident took place in Dalori 2 where a suicide bomber was intercepted and killed before being able to blow himself up ».
The Nigerian authorities generally attribute such attacks to the jihadist group Boko Haram, of which Maiduguri is the historic cradle. Since 2009, the Boko Haram insurgency has killed at least 20,000 people and displaced more than 2.6 million people.
The camp of Dalori, about fifteen kilometers from Maiduguri, welcomes some 50,000 displaced and is frequently the target of suicide attacks.
